Spring Hill’s Makaela Willis raced to a ninth-place 4k finish in the Tonganoxie cross country meet, Sept. 23.
“For the second straight week, Makaela really ran well and set a personal best,” said Coach Rick O’Neil. “Overall, I was pleased with our team’s improvement.”
Willis clocked 16:59 and broke the 17-minute barrier for the first time. She brought back the team’s only medal.
Besides Willis, Michala Gustafson crossed the finish line in 21:39 – good enough for 66th place.
In the JV girls race, Amanda Williams clocked a 4k time of 24:32 and Vera Swinski, 24:37.
On the boys’ side, where races were 5k, Michael Nemer claimed 43rd place in 20:32 and Trent Schartz, 68th in 22:59.
The season continues Sept. 30 with Spring Hill making its first appearance at the Central Heights Invitational. First race starts at 4 p.m.
