Williams, Pesek win 6A state wrestling titles

The Gardner Blazers 14 under boys basketball team brought back a USSSA Division 3 state title last weekend. The team posted a perfect 5-0 record in the two day tournament at SM West and the Lenexa Family Life Center. The Gardner Blazers 14 under boys basketball team brought back a USSSA Division 3 state title last weekend. Dustin Williams and Seth Pesek captured 6A  wrestling titles highlighting an impressive performance by the Blazer wrestling team at the state tournament in Wichita Feb. 22-23.
Williams, a junior, won the 145 pound state title last season, brought back a title this year in the 160 pound division. He posted a perfect 43-0 record with a 3-1 win against Kalin Collins of Wichita South.
“Being undefeated means a lot,”said Williams.  “And I did not allow a takedown all season. I’m real proud of that.”
Pesek, a sophomore, joined Williams on the award stand after posting a 3-2 win against junior Mario Galvan of SM Northwest in the final.
A silver medal went to sophomore Emilio Fowler in the 182 pound division.
Earning fourth place were Jacob Bonham (106), and T. J. Burger (113 ). Also providing state points were Tyler Horton, 120 pound sophomore, Kiefer Price, 126 pound senior, Cody Rader, 145 pound senior and Hunter Mulford, 285 pound freshman.
As a team, GEHS finished fifth with 106.5 points. Winning the state title was Garden City with 173.5 points; Junction City with 125.5 points; Derby with 117.5 points; and Wichita Northwest with 107.5 points.
