William “Bill” F. Stiles

William “Bill” F. Stiles, 85, of Gardner, Kan., passed away Sept. 17, 2013 at his home.

Bill was born Dec. 16, 1927 to Floyd and Gertrude Stiles. He graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1945. After graduating, Bill served in the United States Army.

Bill married Eleanor on Aug 1, 1953 in Topeka, Kan. They moved from Wellington, Kan. to Gardner 29 years ago. Eleanor preceded him in death in Sept. 2010 after 57 years of marriage.

Bill managed grain elevators in Kansas, Colorado and Missouri prior to working for the USDA. He worked as a warehouse examiner for the USDA from 1970 to 1984 in Illinois and Kansas and then transferred to the Kansas City Commodity Office in Kansas City, Mo. from 1984 to his retirement in 1992.

Bill was a fifteen year volunteer ambassador with the Olathe Medical Center. He was a member of the Gardner Presbyterian Church and the last several years he had been active at the First Baptist Church of Gardner.

He was a devoted father and grandfather. Bill enjoyed sports, especially KU basketball, family time, and had a true heart for people in all walks of life, always finding a way to make them laugh.

Bill is survived by his four sons: Stuart Stiles, of Gardner, Roger Stiles and his wife Vicki, of Spring Hill, Tim Stiles and his wife Linda, of Olathe, and Bruce Stiles and his wife Sandy, of Topeka; grandchildren: Teresa, Vanessa, Renee, Marissa, and Tyler; two step-grandchildren: Sydney and Charlee; his brother, Robert, of Spring Hill; and his beloved cat, Lucky.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Sept. 20, 2013 at First Baptist Church, 324 E Shawnee, Gardner, KS. Burial follows at Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sept. 19, 2013 at Bruce Funeral Home, 106 S Center, Gardner, KS (913)856-7111.
