Wheatridge Middle School remains undefeated after PRMS rivalry match

The Wheatridge Middle School eighth-grade varsity football squad moved to 3-0 with a 20-8 win versus crosstown rival Pioneer Ridge Middle School, Sept. 21. The Gardner Edgerton squads battled at the Gardner Edgerton High School District Stadium on Sept. 21.
WMS running back Anthony Smart led the way with two touchdowns and 50 yards rushing. Josh Lang added one touchdown and 30 yards. Kyle Stubler connected with Kyle Hultgren for another 45-yard touchdown.
Providing up-front blocking were WMS offensive linemen Blake Eckleberry, Briley Bulva, Michael Pacheco, Sean Callahan, Drace Snyder, and Kaleb Keck.
After a scoreless first quarter, Wheatridge went up 6-0 at halftime.
Pioneer regrouped and went up 8-6 after three quarters thanks to an 18-yard touchdown run by Jadon Pearson-Bruce. Bruce also added a successful two-point conversion run.
However, WMS battled back and scored 14 unanswered fourth-quarter points to secure the win.
“This was a hard-fought football game,” said Coach Kevin Collins. “Unfortunately, we had too many mistakes with turnovers.”
WMS defensive stalwarts were Snyder, Emilio Fowler and Andrew Plank.

PRMS’ season continued at Ottawa, Sept. 28. Results were not available at press time.
