Weekend traffic alert

I-35 & Homestead Lane Diverging Diamond Interchange Project
EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKEND OVERNIGHT LANE, ROADWAY & RAMP CLOSURES: The following lane, roadway and ramp closures will take place overnight on Friday-Saturday, July 26-27, for demolition work on the existing Homestead Lane Bridge over I-35 in Johnson County. Crews will first place a dirt bed onto the existing I-35 pavement underneath the bridge on both northbound and southbound I-35 to protect it, then demolition work will begin. The bridge deck will be removed by utilizing heavy equipment and the bridge columns will be removed via blasting.

Northbound and southbound I-35 right lanes at Homestead Lane

8:00p.m. Friday, July 26 – 9:00a.m. Saturday, July 27

Southbound I-35 left lane at 175th Street

Northbound I-35 left lane at K-33

K-33 to northbound I-35 ramp

Sunflower Road to northbound I-35 ramp

175th Street to southbound I-35 ramp

Gardner Road to southbound I-35 ramp

9:00p.m. Friday, July 26 – 8:00a.m. Saturday, July 27

All lanes of northbound I-35 from 175th Street to K-33

All lanes of southbound I-35 from K-33 to 175th Street

Advance message boards will alert traffic to the lane, roadway and ramp closures. Marked detours will be provided. Southbound I-35 traffic will exit at U.S. 56 and head westbound on U.S. 56 to southbound K-33 and take K-33 back to southbound I-35; northbound I-35 traffic will exit at K-33 and head northbound on K-33 to eastbound U.S. 56 back to northbound I-35.
In the event of weather delays, the demolition work and all above closures will be moved to Saturday-Sunday, July 27-28 taking place during at the same times as
listed above.

EXPECT DELAYS! 24/7 LANE CLOSURES: Northbound and southbound I-35 right lanes at Homestead Lane will be CLOSED for ramp tie-in work for the new interchange, 24/7 round the clock, beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, July 29 through mid-September 2013, weather permitting. To provide the traveling public with timely traffic impacts through the I-35 project work zone, the Kansas Department of Transportation has launched a temporary traffic system through the I-35 corridor from K-33 to US-56 in southern Johnson County, known as the I-35 Smart Work Zone Traffic System. The Smart Work Zone Traffic System includes portable changeable message signs, cameras, speed sensors, and variable speed limit signs on the I-35 mainline lanes to help monitor traffic flow and advise drivers
to potential delays via slow traffic, traffic incidents, etc. Drivers will be able to view the roadways and obtain real-time traffic information through the Smart Work Zone system online at: LINK
