Gardner is one of the safest places in Kansas. That’s conclusion Movoto Real Estate, a brokerage website, drew after compiling FBI statistics for the top 35 most populated places in Kansas.
The web site writers examined FBI statistics for murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, theft and vehicle theft. They divided the statistics into four categories – murders, violent crimes, property crimes and total crimes – giving extra weight to murders and violent crimes.
Gardner is one of the larger cities in the site’s top 10, landing as the sixth safest place to live in Kansas. With a population of 19,532 people, the city registered only five rapes, two robberies and 28 assaults per 100,000 in 2012. A person in Gardner has a 1 in 265 chance of being a crime victim.
Gardner wasn’t the only Kansas City metropolitan city to garner a spot on Movoto’s list. Prairie Village took the number one spot. Lansing ranked number three and Ottawa garnered number five. Andover, Haysville, Derby, Atchison, El Dorado and Parsons rounded out the top 10.
The complete list of 35 cities can be viewed at www.movoto.com.
