Wanda Ruth Zeek

 

Wanda Ruth Zeek, 80, of Gardner, passed away Nov. 27, 2012 at her home. 

Wanda was born January 13, 1932 in Concordia, Kan. to Lester Noel and Mildred (Evert) Bronson. She grew up in Concordia and attended Concordia High School.

She married Orie Don Zeek on Jan. 13, 1951 in Concordia. Orie and Wanda lived many places, moving to Edgerton in 1974 for his work, to Spring Hill in 1984 and on to Gardner in 1988. She was devoted to her children and her work.

Wanda most recently worked for eight years as a greeter at the Gardner Walmart. Previously she had worked at Dazey Manufacturing in New Century for 20 years. She enjoyed painting by numbers, loved shopping and collecting dolls including her favorite stuffed animal, Eeyore, from Winnie the Pooh. She will be dearly missed by family and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orie, in 1982; parents Lester and Mildred; brothers, Wayne and Floyd.

Wanda is survived by her children, Barbara Harrington, of Lawrence, Kan., Susan and husband Kevin Poage, of Gardner, Janet and husband James Cain, of Lawrence,  Noel Zeek, of Gardner, and Carol Long, of Rantoul, Kan.; sister, Betty Wallace, of Concordia, Kan.; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She will lie in state 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 with visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913)856-7111. Cremation following.  Inurnment graveside service will be held at a later date at the Edgerton Cemetery, Edgerton, Kan. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
