Gardner Edgerton senior Cassie Wait was recently named the Kansas Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year. The award goes to the most outstanding player in the state this season.
“I really didn’t think I would get the award,” said Wait,a 5-8 outside hitter. There are a lot of good players in Kansas. This is exciting news.”
This season Wait led the Blazers to an impressive 38-7 record and a third place finish in the 6A state tournament. She ended the season with 526 kills, 512 digs, 54 aces, 28 blocks and a .473 hitting percentage. Those stats also paved the way for first team All America honors.
“I think her ability to be a six position player put her over the top in the voting,” said Coach Darrell Wait, Cassie’ s father. She is just a well rounded player.”
Wait just returned from participation in the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Under Armour All America game in Louisville. She hopes the experience will help with the transition to the Kansas University team  next fall.
“Pretty much all the players on the team were All America selections,” said Wait.  It was good experience for college and that next level of competition,”
Academically, Wait maintains a 4.0 GPA  and serves on student council, National honor society and as a youth volleyball coach.
