VFW honors two Gardner Edgerton teachers

The VFW is recognizing two Gardner Edgerton School District teachers.
Gardner Edgerton High School history teacher Walt Cochran and Moonlight Elementary kindergarten teacher Sara Weishaar were nominated by USD 231 students and selected by the VFW Post No. 11234, Gardner, as recipients of the District II VFW Citizen Education Teachers Award.
The pair will now advance to compete at the state level.
Through the award program, the VFW recognizes teachers who promote America’s history, traditions and institutions to today’s youth.
Cochran was a 2009 finalist for the Kansas Teacher of the Year and was recognized by the Gilder Lehrman Institute as Kansas U.S. Teacher of the Year in 2005.

Sara Weishaar

Weishaar taught in inner-city Chicago schools for seven years before moving to USD 231. This is her second year at Moonlight Elementary.
