Veterans Day events scheduled for Thursday

• Gardner Edgerton High School will honor local veterans and their families with a video presentation that includes photos of alumni veterans of the school. A reception will follow. The public is invited. The festivities begin at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 11 at GEHS.

• The Johnson County government will sponsor its annual Veterans Day celebration starting at 11 a.m. on Veterans Day, Nov. 11 at Navy Park located at Gardner Drive and New Century Parkway at New Century AirCenter.
This year’s event will commemorate the 10th anniversary of Desert Storm in Iraq and the 60th anniversary of the beginning of the Korean War.
The celebration will also include the 60th anniversary and rededication of Navy Park, which was originally dedicated on Dec. 7, 1950 at Olathe Naval Air Station. Navy Park was created to honor 16 Navy and Marine Corp aviators who trained at Olathe Naval Air Station and lost their lives in the service of their country.
