There will be several brief, local services honoring deceased veterans on Memorial Day, May 26.
Members of the public are invited to attend. At 8 a.m., the American Legion Post 19 will host a short memorial service at the Gardner Cemetery. The ceremony will include a brief prayer by Rev. Ken Porter.
Immediately following, the American Legion will host a similar ceremony at the St. Columba, the Catholic Cemetery north of Gardner. Father Joe Kramer will offer a prayer.
At 10 a.m., members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 11234 will host a ceremony at Veteran’s Park. Rev. Porter will offer a prayer and the VFW will have a color guard and firing squad.
In Spring Hill, the American Legion Post 350, along with the Legion Auxiliary, Sons, Riders and the Spring Hill Historical Society will host a ceremony in the Spring Hill Cemetery beginning at 10 a.m. Local Scouts will assist with the effort, and members of the Spring Hill Cemetery Board will be available before and after the ceremony to help citizens locate graves of interest.
Members of the public are also invited to a Memorial Day breakfast from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on May 26 at the American Legion, 315 Meadowbrook Circle.
