Vance “Bud” Meek

Vance “Bud” Meek, 86, of Spring Hill, Kansas passed away surrounded by his family, May 29, 2014 to join his beloved wife, Marlys, again in heaven.

Bud was born July 6, 1927 in Bucyrus, Kansas to William Vance and Rachel (Cantrall) Meek. He graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1945 and attended Kansas State University.

He was united in marriage to Marlys Ann Jensen on Dec. 27, 1948 in Spring Hill.

Bud farmed and milked cows until the mid 60’s, when he started driving a school bus along with the farming. He quit milking cows in 1972 and started working full time for the Spring Hill School District, where he retired as the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds in 1993.

Bud was an active member of the Spring Hill United Methodist Church. He loved his lake home and fishing on Lake Taneycomo for several years after retirement. Bud and Marlys enjoyed traveling and he will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marlys in 2011; sisters, Velma Moll and Marjorie Guffey; daughter-in-law Diana.

He is survived by his sons, Bill and wife Staci, Jerry and wife Pat, Kevin and wife Sharon and Tim and wife Sharon; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., June 2, 2014 at Spring Hill United Methodist Church, 112 E Nichols St. Spring Hill, KS 66083. Burial follows at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe, Kansas. Visitation was held June 1, 2014 at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S. Webster, Spring Hill, KS 66083 (913)-592-2244.
