UPDATED: Mundt leaving Gardner for Iowa

Melissa Mundt, Gardner assistant city administrator and interim community development director, has been hired as assistant city manager for the city of Ames, Iowa.
Mundt, an Ames native, began work for the city of Gardner in 2003.
She was recently named one of three finalists among 160 persons who applied for the Ames job.
She will begin work on June 13.
She announced she would accept the job during a city council meeting on April 2.
“It’s my hometown,” she told the council. “I’m very excited about the new challenge in my life.”
Her final day in Gardner will be May 23.
Mayor Dave Drovetta said he’s enjoyed working with Mundt for the last nine years.
“Ames is gaining a very good, valuable contributor to that group,” Drovetta said.
Mundt’s departure is the city’s latest administrative leave.
City Administrator Stewart Fairburn resigned more than a year ago to take a job in Chickasha, Okla.
Mike Press, retired county manager, has been filling in as city administrator on an interim basis.
