Placing its offense in high gear, the Blazer freshman football team brought back a convincing 50-26 win from Blue Valley Southwest, Sept. 16.
Gardner Edgerton High School went up 6-0 early thanks to a 37-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Griffin Johns to Zach Bass.
The Blazers added 20 second -quarter points on a Hunter Skeens eight-yard run, a Bass six-yard run and a Johns 51- yard touchdown pass to Bass. That gave GEHS a 26-14 halftime lead.
The Blazers put the game out of reach with 24 third quarter points. Scoring came on a Johns to Jonas Pippitt 37- yard touchdown pass; a Pippitt two- yard run, and a Johns 32-yard touchdown run.
Offensively, Skeens led the way gaining 104 yards on 15 carries. Johns added 63 yards on the ground and Pippitt had 62 yards.
Through the air, Johns connected on four of six passes for 130 yards and three touchdowns. His favorite target was Bass who hauled in two passes for 88 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, Bass, Conner Boyt and Sam Stranathan recovered fumbles.
Now 3-0, GEHS traveled to Bishop Miege Sept. 24. Results not available at press time.
