Two people, including a 7-year-old girl, were critically injured in a traffic accident in Gardner early Sunday morning.
Their vehicle was struck almost head on by a man who was arrested for driving under the influence.
According to police reports, Gardner Public Safety officers responded to a crash in town at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. A westbound vehicle – driven by a 38-year-old man – crossed the center lane and struck an eastbound vehicle.
The driver of that vehicle – a 19 year old man – was critically injured and flown to the University of Kansas Medical Center. Another passenger, a 7-year-old girl – was transported via helicopter to Children’s Mercy Hospital. Two other passengers were taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
Officers took the driver of the other vehicle – a 38-year-old man – into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. Officials anticipate he will be charged on Monday, June 28.

We would love to be able to do that, and if we are able to get our hands on that information we will. Health privacy regulations — specifically HIPAA laws — make it virtually impossible to find out the status of hospital patients.

I would also like to know the status of the driver who caused the crash, who is he, has he been charged, is he going to be released? I know for a fact I’m not the only person to feel this way.
Jack, I believe I located that info. Last name was Sprague, L. Was charged with DUI, Aggrivated Battery and something else. I believe it will be a felony charge.
