GEHS freshman Mia Tovkach was recently voted the KC Stars’ Metro girls golfer of the year.
Tovkach shot a 77 and won the 6A State tournament by one stroke in mid October at the Terralyne Country Club in Andover, Kan.
In addition, Tovkach won the three round EKL conference tournament and took second at Regionals.
“I’m real proud of winning state,” said Tovkach. “Going in I thought I could be among the top placers, but I did not think I could win because there were so many good golfers.”
Other highlights included a low score of 71 at Swope Park to win the third and final leg of the EKL league tournament. She also set a tournament record at the Paola Invitational with a score of 33 for nine holes.
