John Toplikar will run for Kansas Insurance Commissioner. Toplikar currently represents Gardner, Edgerton and part of Olathe on the Johnson County Board of Commissioners.
The former state representative joins a crowded insurance commissioner primary. A Republican, Toplikar will face Beverly Gossage, a healthcare consultant from Eudora; Clark Schulz, a former state senator from McPherson; David Powell, an insurance broker; and Ken Selzer, an accountant from Leawood.
Dennis Anderson, the CEO of a family insurance education and publication business, has filed to run on the Democrat ticket.
The primary election will be in August.Kansans will select a replacement for outgoing insurance commissioner, Sandy Praeger, in the 2014 general election in November.
“This position requires public policy experience and in depth knowledge of the legislative process,” Toplikar said in a press release announcing his candidacy. “As Kansas Insurance Commissioner the people can be confident of my extensive ability and proven leadership in both.”
