Updated: Topeka police seek man with Gardner address in murder investigation

Update: Police in Johnson County, Neb., apprehended Michael Dean Engstrom and his female companion late Wednesday night after they attempted to rob a convenience store in Pawnee City, Neb. The pair was booked into jail, but no formal charges have yet been filed. The 14-year-old girl was turned over to social services.

Michael Dean Engstrom, 33, is wanted in connection with a Topeka murder.

He is 6-foot, 5-inches tall and weighs about 250 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans.

According to the Topeka Capital-Journal, Topeka authorities are investigating a Feb. 13 double shooting that killed a man and injured a woman.

Helicopters circled Topeka Wednesday afternoon as the Kansas Highway Patrol sought Engstrom.

According to the Journal, Engstrom is believed to be traveling with companions; a 14-year-old girl, and Jamie Marie Russell, 34, who is a person of interest in the case. She is 5-foot, 4-inches tall and weighs approximately 350 pounds.

The trio was last seen in a white, four-door 2009 Ford Focus.
