Traffic may be slow in and around Gardner and Edgerton this weekend as two Kansas Department of Transportation projects shutter lanes and even the interstate.
Beginning Friday, July 12, a resurfacing project on a 7.4-mile stretch of U.S. 56 Highway will intermittently reduce traffic to one lane from Gardner to the Douglas County line on 56 Highway during daylight hours on weekdays until the project is completed. Road closures may also include intermittent closures of adjacent cross roads.
The road maintenance will involve milling 2-inches of existing pavement and re-applying a 2-inch overlay and a chip seal. New pavement markings will also be applied.
On Saturday, July 13, northbound Interstate 35 at Gardner Road will close to all traffic for approximately 15-30 minutes sometime between 8 a.m. and noon.
The closure will allow work crews to do overhead sign truss installation work at Moonlight Road.
For both projects, advance message boards will alert traffic to road closures and detours.
