Sunflower celebrates winning Blue Ribbon Award

School Superintendent Bill Gilhaus and Gardner Mayor David Drovetta congratulated Sunflower Students for receiving the National Blue Ribbon Award from the U.S. Department of Education. Ready, set … food fight!

Local children enrolled in a summer camp got more than they bargained for when they donned their swimsuits on Friday afternoon and marched out to a field behind Sunflower Elementary. Organizers of the summer camp, sponsored by Johnson County, had told children they were going outside for a picnic -- but the kids didn’t know they were in for a food fight.
