The De Soto School District Board of Education named Dustin Mortenson as principal of De Soto High School for the 2014-2015 school year.
During the April 25 meeting, board meetings approved the hiring of the Mortenson, who currently serves as principal at Sunflower Elementary School in the Gardner-Edgerton School District. At De Soto High School, Mortenson replaces Mark Meyer, who will takeover as principal at Gardner Edgerton High School next year.
In addition to serving as principal at Sunflower Elementary School, Mortenson also served as assistant principal at Wheatridge Middle School for three years. His appointment to De Soto High School is a return to the school district for Mortenson. He taught American History and Communication Arts at Monticello Trails Middle School from 2002 through 2005.
“We are pleased to have Dustin return to the school district in a key leadership position,” said Dr. Doug Sumner, Superintendent of Schools. “Dustin is a proven leader and clearly understands our commitment to student learning. We look forward to the partnerships Dustin will form at DHS and the positive leadership he will provide the De Soto High School community. Dustin’s passion for kids and education will energize our efforts in providing the best possible experience for students.”
Mortenson earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education and Educational Administration from the University of Kansas. He is in the process of completing his doctorate of Educational Leadership, also from University of Kansas.
