Students to assist in naming mascot, colors

Grand Star Elementary School Principal Pam Tate will be tasked with working with students and the school planning commission to determine school colors and a mascot for the new school, set to open next fall.
Students from Gardner, Nike and Moonlight Elementaries will select two color and mascot combinations that will be forwarded to the school planning commission. Commissioners will narrow the field to three choices, one of which will be a recommendation for the school board to approve.
The board will be asked to adopt colors and a mascot for the new elementary school at the April 15 meeting.
The selection process for colors and a mascot at the new middle school will begin once a new principal is named. The middle school is set to open in fall 2014.
