A Gardner Edgerton High School student was transported to Johnson County Juvenile Assessment following a fight at the school on Oct. 6.
According to Gardner Police Sgt. Jay Belcher, police responded to a physical altercation between two students at approximately 11:55 a.m. on Monday morning. In attempting to break up the fight, a GEHS teacher was struck.
“One of the students was taken into custody for the charge of battery,” Belcher said.
Gardner Police will submit information about the altercation to the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office on Oct. 10. It will be up to the district attorney to decide whether to file formal charges.
Belcher said because a teacher was struck, police took a report and will forward it to the district attorney’s office.
