Strong second quarter sparks SH Broncos

The Spring Hill High School varsity boys basketball team outscored Eudora 19-4 in the second quarter and went on to post a 46-35  home win in season opening Frontier League action,  Nov. 29.
“ We played fairly good defense but struggled offensively,” said Coach Rick O’Neil. “Overall,  it was a good start and got us ready for tournament play this week at Osawatomie.”
Both teams started strong with Eudora holding a 12-9 first quarter advantage. Back came the Broncos with 19 point second quarter barrage led by the 3 point shooting of Nick Reynolds and Chris Bybee. The Broncos also canned 8 of 9 free throws and went up 28-16 at halftime.  Matt Smith fired in 5 third quarter points as Spring Hill maintained a 9 point lead and held on for victory.
Bybee led the scoring with 14 points,  including 3 treys.  Smith added 12 points , with 8 coming in the fourth quarter. Reynolds had 10 points and two treys and  Niles Kahn , 4 points. Lake Johnson had 3 points, Danny Martinez, 2points  and Evan Hughes, 1 point.
Spring Hill canned 16 of 25 free throws and sank 6 treys . Eudora was 12-19 at the charity stripe and did not connect beyond the 3 point arc.
The Broncos are involved in the Osawatomie tournament this week.  Results were not available at press time.
