September 21, 2013 – The fourth annual Strollathon for Rett Syndrome, a fundraiser event for Rett Syndrome research, was held Saturday in Lenexa. Strollathons were held in Kansas, Maine and Nebraska on September 21, with more scheduled through September and October in various other cities across the country. The Kansas Strollathon is organized by Shannon Stoiber of Olathe, whose daughter Alyssa is afflicted with Rett Syndrome. Shannon and Alyssa were joined by other families caring for children with Rett Syndrome. There were thirteen area girls with Rett Syndrome at Saturday’s event – three are from Olathe. Others come from Kansas towns of Shawnee, LaCygne, Pleasanton, Garnett, North KC, and Roeland Park. Three are from Missouri cities of Gladstone, Harrisonville and Sedalia, and one family travels to KC from Minnesota for this event every year.
