State loss to Piper ends Bronco football season

A 20-14 first-round 4A state loss to visiting Piper High School brought the season to a close for Coach Anthony Orrick and his Bronco varsity football squad Nov. 9.
The 4A District champion Broncos notched the scoring column first on a four-yard touchdown run by Tyus Heinrich.  Brad Bink added a successful extra point kick and Spring Hill High School owned a 7-0 lead.
Back came Piper with a 34-yard touchdown pass, and the Pirates went to halftime up 7-6. The Piper Pirates took control with two, third quarter touchdowns. Piper scored on a five- yard touchdown pass and six-yard touchdown run.
Trailing  20-7, Spring Hill made a game of it with a fourth-quarter touchdown pass from Trevor Cluck to Charles Elam. Bink added a successful extra point kick.
It was not enough  as the Pirates  advanced to the second round playoffs with the win.
Heinrich rushed for 71 yards on nine totes. Lincoln Smith added 10 yards on four carries and Trevian Bryant had nine yards on four carries.
Through the air, Cluck connected on five of 16 passes for 56 yards and one touchdown.
His favorite target was Elam who hauled in three catches for 54 yards.
