For the second year in a row Spring Hill’s Jack Smith has brought back a gold medal from the Sunflower State track games in Topeka.
Smith, senior pastor at Antioch Community Baptist Church, worked his way around the shot put ring for a gold medal heave of 30’10” in the 55-60 age division.
It was Smith’s sixth year competing in the elite games.
Another successful story came from Smith’s son-in-law, Quinton Wilks. Competing in the 35-39 age division, Wilks won golds in the 100 (12.38 seconds), 200 (25.76), long jump (18’4”) and was part of the gold medal 400 meter relay team.
A nagging back injury has sidelined Smith, but Wilks heads to Michigan to compete in Nationals. Wilks was formerly a track assistant at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri.
