SHHS Broncos sweep Baldwin the diamond

Using timely hitting and solid defense, Spring Hill swept a doubleheader at Baldwin, April 12.
In the opener, Spring Hill held on for an 11-9 win and rallied for a 6-5 victory in game two.
“We picked up two big road wins,” said Coach David Londene. “Things are starting to come together.”
Game one saw Spring Hill jump to a 5-3 lead after four innings and hold on for an 11-9 win.
Zach Pickett was the winning pitcher. He faced 23 batters in five innings, allowing just six hits and striking out six. Nate Keegan closed, pitching two innings of solid relief.
Meanwhile, Derek Bybee and Miles Updike stroked home runs and collected two hits apiece. Adam Nunn drove in two RBI and Brady Donahue scored three times.
Things proved a bit more difficult in game two as Spring Hill had to rally for a 6-5 win.
Trailing 5-1, Spring Hill rallied for five runs with two outs in the seventh inning to sweep the doubleheader. Baldwin touched Spring Hill starter Zach Gierrens for four runs, three earned, in just one and two-thirds innings.
Excellent relief pitching by Jeff Lovetinsky saved the day. Lovetinsky hurled 5 1/3 innings, striking out eight and allowing just five hits.
“Jeff really pitched well and gave us an opportunity to rally,” added Londene. “The kids kept battling and found a way to win.”
Evan Smith led the hit parade with a three-for-four plate performance that included a game-winning two-RBI triple. Donahue added two hits.
At home, April 14, Spring Hill dropped a hard-fought 7-6 decision to Osawatomie.
Pickett was the losing pitcher in relief of Dylan Shafer. Donahue and Nunn collected two hits apiece.
Inclement weather forced an early end to game two. Spring Hill held a 3-1 lead when officials suspended action. A completion date for the game has yet to be determined.
Now 5-4, Spring Hill hits the road with away games at Eudora, and Sumner Academy (April 21).
