Although it happens every year, it’s an event that keeps people coming back to Spring Hill each summer. The annual All-School Reunion will be held this weekend at Spring Hill Middle School.

Ted Winkler, Spring Hill class of 1953, volunteers and attends the event each year.

He said the classes who have been out for a recognized number of years tend to have the most interest at the annual reunion each year.

“You have the 50 year class, or the 60 year class or the 25 year class and then the 10 year class,” Winkler said. “Those seem to be the years that people want to come back and see each other.”

The event starts with socializing.

Alums start the afternoon event with social hour prior to dinner. While mingling in the school building, they can peruse old yearbooks, photos and memorabilia from their days at SH High in the school library. A photographer will also be on hand to take group pictures.

Afterwards, dinner will be served followed by a business meeting.
Winkler said thanks to modern technology interest in getting classmates together has been revived. For example, a Friends of Spring Hill fan page on

Facebook has 861 fans. Old pictures of the community as well as a forum are posted to the page, and group members are discussing the possibility of having some sort of reunion event in conjunction with the Fall Festival this year.

In the meantime, Winkler said he hopes to see a large turnout at the annual All-School Reunion this weekend.

The reunion will start at 3 p.m. on June 12 at Spring Hill Middle School. A social hour will run from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Dinner starts at 6 p.m. and will be catered by L & M Catering. Cost for the dinner is $13.

After dinner, the Spring Hill Alumni Association will conduct a business meeting. For more information about the event, call (913)592-9324 or join the Friends of Spring Hill on Facebook.
