Sheriff’s office to mark 150th anniversary with open house on Nov. 5

The Johnson County Sheriff’s office is celebrating its 150th anniversary with an open house on Saturday, Nov. 5.
The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fred Allenbrand Criminal Justice Complex, 27745 W. 150th Street in New Century.
At noon, Sheriff Frank Denning will speak on the history of the department.
The event will feature displays of historic law enforcement memorabilia as well as modern day equipment.
The public is also invited to tour the sheriff’s operation center and the adult detention center.
Tours of the operations center will be ongoing throughout the event.
Tours of the jail will be limited to the first 30 persons at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The sheriff’s office was founded as a one-person department in 1861 and has since expanded to 500 deputies, two jails and a crime lab.
