A Johnson County District Court sentenced Eddie Lamar Thomas, Jr., Kansas City, Kan., to life in prison plus 61 additional months on April 1.
Thomas was convicted in the August 2010 shooting death of Christopher Dotson, 22.
The Shawnee man’s body was discovered on the floor of his Shawnee apartment on Aug. 25, 2010. He had been shot through the cheek and spinal cord.
Law enforcement investigators were unable to find Dotson’s wallet or any cash in the apartment. At trial, prosecutors including Assistant District Attorneys Christopher McMullin and Erika Rasmussen theorized robbery was the motive for murder.
Shawnee Police, the Kansas City Metro Squad and the Johnson County Crime Lab assisted in the investigation.
Thomas’s two sentences – life, for the murder conviction; and 61 months for aggravated robbery – will be served consecutively in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections.
