The Spring Hill High School football team jumped to a 21-6 first quarter lead and never looked back en route to a 42-12 second round district 4A home win against Sumner Academy last Friday night.
The Broncos went up 7-0 thanks to a 17-yard touchdown run by Charles Elam.
Back came Sumner scoring on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Ben Miller to Shawn Rainey.
Leading 7-6, Spring Hill went back to work in the first quarter. Quarterback Ryker Johnson scored on a 2-yard run and minutes later Spring Hill went up 21-6 on a nice 23-yard gallop to pay dirt by Brad Smith.
Spring Hill put the game out of reach just before halftime when Elam scored again on an 11-yard run. That placed the halftime score at 28-6.
The Broncos salted the game away with third quarter touchdown runs of one and four yards by Smith.
Sumner finalized the scoring when Jalen Taylor found Rainey for an 18-yard fourth quarter touchdown pass.
All told, Spring Hill amassed 302 total yards of offense. Through the air, Johnson connected on four of seven passes for 59 yards. Ivan Hughes grabbed one catch for 26 yards and Elam hauled in one reception for 13 yards.
On the ground, Smith rushed for 129 yards on 16 totes and scored three touchdowns. Elam added 59 yards on five carries and had two touchdowns. While Brandon Dofat had 21 yards on three carries. Johnson netted another 19 yards on just six carries and scored a touchdown.
