Cooper McGuire received a pleasant surprise during an all-school homecoming assembly on Oct. 3. The GEHS senior learned that he was the recipient of the Nordstrom Cares Scholarship. The $10,000 scholarship also included an Apple MacBook Air.
McGuire was notified this past summer that he had been nominated for the scholarship and that he had been selected as a semi-finalist. As a semi-finalist, he was asked to participate in a video conference interview from which the finalists were selected. Representatives from Nordstrom’s local office were on hand to share the good news.
Nordstrom awards 80 U.S. and Puerto Rican high school and 10 Canadian secondary school students a $10,000 scholarship to help achieve their dreams of going to a four-year university. The Nordstrom Scholarship recognizes outstanding students across the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada for their exceptional scholastic achievement and community involvement.
