The Johnson County Fair is over, and school is about to begin.
First day of classes will be Aug. 10 for grades 1-8, Aug. 11 for kindergarten and grades 10-12 and Aug. 12 for preschool.
With students still enrolling, an exact enrollment figureis not yet available.
“At this point, students are still enrolling ?and moving in and out of the district,” said Leeann Northway, USD 231 public information officer. “The official headcount date is September 20.”
New programs within the school district include the Gardner Edgerton Youth and Community Programs and high school Culinary Program, Northway said. “Advanced courses in the Advanced Technical Center will start this school year opening greater opportunities for our students after graduation,” she said.
Schools are ready for student learning on Thursday, Aug. 10.
“The high school is in final construction stages this week and will be ready for student arrival,” Northway said.
Gardner Edgerton School District is excited to have hired 85 new staff members for the 2017-2018 school year, Northway said.
“The district has been busy preparing for the August opening for several months with construction on the high school, Advanced Technical Center, and new TRAILS facility; other facility updates, technology upgrades, and annual summer maintenance,” she said. “We are ready to welcome more than 6,000 students through the doors of USD 231.”
