Teachers union, officials continue negotiations

The local teachers union and USD 231 officials will extend negotiations over teacher contracts, according to a board of education report from Lana Gerber, director of administrative services.
The negotiations committee met for a third time on May 30, but will now wait to continue negotiations pending the Schools for Fair Funding lawsuit, Gov. Brownback budget proposals and the USD 231 budget for 2012-2013. The next meeting for the committee is scheduled for mid-July.

New computers being installed at GEHS

New Dell computer equipment is being installed at Gardner Edgerton High School this summer. According to a report from Ben Crosier to the board of education, the computer replacements should be ready for the start of school this fall.

Committee formed to focus on large events

The Gardner Area Chamber of Commerce has formed a committee to keep local businesses informed of big events, according to a report from Leann Northway, director of USD 231 communications. The committee, which includes representation from the Gardner Police Department, Gardner Parks and Recreation Department, New Century Field House, Johnson County Fire District No. 1, Johnson County Extension Center, Johnson County Fairgrounds, the chamber and the school district, will meet monthly.
