Pam Stranathan will continue to serve as interim superintendent of USD 231 next year.
A contract for the term of one year commencing, July 1, 2014 and ending on June 30, 2015, was approved by the school board at the April 2014 BOE meeting and accepted by Stranathan.
Stranathan’s contract states her salary is $145,000 for the one year contract, 20 days paid vacation annually, 12 days accumulated paid sick leave, health insurance and a $100 per month phone allowance. She is subject to the same duties, compliance with laws and directives and evaluation process as written in prior superintendent contracts.
Notably absent in Stranathan’s contract is the provision in a prior superintendent’s contract that required BOE members to promptly refer all criticism, complaints and suggestions to the superintendent.
Stranathan has not been authorized to use her discretion to determine which requests for information from individual board members she would respond to. The interim superintendent shall not have the authority and responsibility to develop new programs, administrative procedures and make other administrative changes necessary to carry out duties. There is no automobile allowance, no tax sheltered annuity contribution, no post-termination benefits, no wording that states “in no event shall the salaries stipulated in this paragraph be reduced during the term of this contract.” Stranathan has not set the conditions under which she may be terminated.
