A Gardner woman involved in a hit-and-run accident on Interstate 35 Wednesday morning delivered a baby girl following the accident.

Nikki McClure,33,  is in stable condition, according to a statement her husband, Matt McClure released to the press.

“We are happy to report that we have a healthy baby girl who is our little miracle,” he said.

Kansas State Troopers remain on the lookout for a damaged semi-tractor trailer they believe was involved the injury accident yesterday just north of Gardner on I-35.

The morning rush hour accident sent McClure, who was pregnant, to the hospital with critical injuries.  The accident educed traffic to one lane on northbound I-35 for several hours.

Investigators believe her Hyundai ran into the back of a semi trailer. The impact sent her car into a nearby ditch where she was extricated from her car and sent to the hospital with critical injuries.

“We haven’t been able to interview the driver of the Hyundai,” Kansas Highway Patrolman Lt. David Porter said. “But apparently her car ran into the back of a trailer. Her car was extensively damaged.”

He believes the back of the semi truck involved likely sustained heavy damage as well – particularly the back left side.

“We do want to talk to the semi driver,” Porter said. “At this point, we have an injury accident and one of the participants is not there.”

Investigators are asking for information from anyone who may have seen the accident or from anyone who may have information about the semi truck involved. Anyone with information is asked to call the Kansas Highway Patrol at (913)782-8100.
