Rumors swirl about possible board resignation

Since the first few days of August, rumors have flown around Gardner that Tim Rayburn, newly-elected USD 231 board president, may resign, and at least one USD 231 patron has been asked about the potential of serving on the school board should a position become available.
School officials have not formally commented on the rumors. Due to a full voice mailbox, The Gardner News was unable to leave a message and inquiry for Rayburn.
However, board member Rob Shippy told The Gardner News that he questioned district staff about a possible Rayburn resignation. Staff members said they had no information on any such resignation, and Leann Northway, community relations director, said she has no information about a potential board resignation.
Immediately following the Aug. 12 board of education meeting, Mark Granell, board vice president, told the newspaper that he had no personal knowledge of the issue. Rayburn did not attend the meeting due to a death in the family. Granell explained it is everyone’s responsibility at all times to be looking for people interested in serving as board members.
