Roberta Jean “Bobbi” Schumacher

Schumacher
Roberta Jean “Bobbi” Schumacher, 59, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away at her home on April 25, 2014.

Bobbi was born in 1955 to William Harvey and Mary Helen (Hinners) Schumacher in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She graduated from Mary Bradford High School in Kenosha, attended the University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and eventually earned her Master’s in Curriculum from the University of Kansas.

Bobbi was an employee of the Gardner Edgerton School District for 36 years where she served as librarian and media specialist at Gardner Edgerton High School, Nike Middle School and Gardner Elementary. Most recently she served as ninth grade language arts instructor at Gardner Edgerton High School (GEHS). In addition to her years of service in education, Bobbi also worked for 17 years at Noble House Jewelry in Overland Park, Kansas.

Bobbi was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Schumacher and her niece Sarah Schumacher.

Bobbi is survived by sisters Helen Schumacher, of Kenosha, and Maggie Schumacher, of Livermore, California; brother William Schumacher and wife Sandra, of Madison, Wisconsin; niece Elizabeth Merritt and husband David, of Los Alamos, New Mexico; nephews Andrew Schumacher, of Madison and Sam Merritt and wife Lisa of Hayward, of California; and many cousins.

In addition to her many years of dedicated service as library media specialist and language arts instructor, Bobbi also served the students of the district in many extra-curricular capacities. Among her many activities included class sponsor, student council sponsor and advisor, homecoming dance coordinator, Nike cheerleading coach, and prom assistant.

Bobbi also assisted the High School and District while serving on numerous scholarship committees as well as many building and district level committees including the calendar committee, the library media specialist committee, the technology committee and the NCA/QPA committee. Finally, one of the districts most cherished annual events, the senior citizen luncheon, can be directly attributed to Bobbi’s vision and compassion for the senior citizens living in the communities of Gardner and Edgerton.

It is also worth mentioning that Bobbi was always willing to provide assistance “behind the scenes” in any capacity that would improve daily and annual activities of the high school and district and was always willing to volunteer to serve.

A celebration of life will be held at 7 p.m., May 8, 2014 at the Gardner Edgerton High School Auditorium. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Bobbi Schumacher Memorial Scholarship Fund, USD No. 231 P.O. Box 97, Gardner, KS 66030. Arrangements by Bruce Funeral Home, (913)856-7111. Condolences may be left at www.brucefuneralhome.com.
