Robert “Andy” Haynes

Robert “Andy” Haynes, 87, of Olathe, Kan. passed away June 30, 2014 at Good Samaritan Center in Olathe.

Andy was born Aug. 16, 1926 on a farm near Mendon, Mo. to Ann Eliza Pippitt and Chauncey A. Haynes. The family moved to Gardner in 1942. Andy helped his Dad on the Thomas Bigger dairy farm. He was a 1944 Gardner High School graduate and completed Insurance courses to gain his license.

Andy married the love of his life, Hazel M. Sumner on April 21, 1945 in Paola, Kan. They lived in Spring Hill before moving to Cedar Lake in 2001.

He worked for American National Life Insurance from 1951 to 1962 and he owned Duguid-Haynes Insurance Agency in Olathe from 1962 to 1983. Andy also owned Haynes Income Tax Service.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Spring Hill, the Odd Fellows Lodge and the Lucky 13 Volunteer Fire Dept. Andy served on the Spring Hill City Council, the Spring Hill School Board, was a past President for the Olathe Optimist Club, on the advisory board for Cedar Lake Village and on the Johnson County Fair Board. He was a volunteer for the Spring Hill Senior Citizens.

Andy enjoyed woodworking, dancing and playing cards in his spare time. He loved spending time with his family. He had a multitude of friends and he especially enjoyed playing “Santa”. Andy will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Woodrow Haynes and Gertrude Brubaker, one grandchild and four great grandchildren.

Andy is survived by his wife, Hazel, of 69 years; son Andy Haynes and his wife Barb and Andra Quick and her husband Martin; six grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., July 5, 2014 at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S Webster, Spring Hill, KS (913)592-2244. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
