Richard Arthur Granger

Richard Arthur Granger, 87, of Merriam, passed away May 15, 2013 at Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation in Merriam.
 
Rich was born Feb. 23, 1926 in Stanley, Kan., to Fredrick Michael and Hulda Jane (Mathis) Granger. He was a graduate of Stanley High in 1944. Rich served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Georgia L. Wiggin on Dec. 25, 1950 in Lenexa, Kan. They moved to Merriam in 1961.

Rich was a journeyman auto mechanic for KCPL for 36 years and a member of the IBEW; retiring in 1988. He liked to camp and boat and assisted with the Boy Scouts.  Rich will be dearly missed by family and friends.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rebecca L. Granger; one granddaughter; brothers, Fredrick S., Herman Russell and Derril Dean Granger. Richard is survived by his wife, Georgia, of the home; children, Vicki Kennamer of Shawnee, Kan., Richard D. Granger of Overland Park, Kan., Kenneth D. and wife Cheryl Granger of Stilwell, Kan., Russell W. and wife Wendy Granger of Independence, Mo., Megan L. Granger of Merriam; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913) 856-7111. Burial follows at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Stanley. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. before the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Vitas Hospice Care of Kansas.
