There will be new blood, at least that’s the hope of the Gardner Edgerton High School All-School Reunion committee.
The committee, currently comprised of six members, organizes an annual reunion for all alumni of Gardner High School, Edgerton High School, and GEHS. Last year’s event, held the weekend of GEHS’ graduation, was attended by more than 250 graduates from classes from the 1940s to today.
The existing committee members include a graduate from the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s and 2000s. Mica Marriott, who chairs the committee, said the group specifically hopes to target more recent graduates.
Marriott graduated from GEHS in 2000.
“I think getting younger volunteers involved might get their classmates to the reunion,” she said. “That’s why they got me involved. Little did they know I have no influence on people my own age.”
Marriott’s term as chair is set to expire following the 2013 reunion, and she doesn’t plan to seek a leadership role again. She said her goal is to attend the reunion as an alum and not a volunteer in 2014.
The term of the committee’s treasurer, Laura McCarthy, is also set to expire this year.
The committee meets just twice a year, and is responsible for administering the group’s Facebook page, updating email information of graduates, creating a program for the annual event, mailing invitations and keeping mail lists current, collecting RSVPs and balancing the checkbook.
The committee will meet for the first time in 2013 at 1 p.m. on Feb. 16 at the Gardner Historical Museum. All GEHS alumni are welcome to attend and assist in the planning of the reunion.
The 2013 reunion will be on Sunday, May 19.
