It was a record setting season for Coach Brian McGee and his Blazer boys track team. The team set several new standards throughout competition in the Eastern Kansas League and at regional and state competition.
Senior Matt Mayeske had a banner season setting new records in the 110 hurdles (14.6) and 300 hurdles (39.50). Mayeske also teamed with Traevohn Wrench, Jaylon Radel and Marcon Waters to set a new 400 relay record time of 43.01. Mayeske was also the team’s leading scorer.
Besides Mayeske, top senior performances came from Dewey Molenda, Riley Craig, Travis Reed, Marcon Waters, Ben Carpenter, and Dalton Shump.
Top returnees will include Radel, who placed eighth at state in the 100 meter dash and was the Blazers second leading point scorer.
Anthony Cisneros took fourth at state in the javelin with a throw of 174 feet. Others figured to score will be juniors Dakota Steuber in the 400 and 1600 meter relays, Traezon Henderson and Tanner Hughes.
Andrew Sprague returns after setting new freshman records in the shot put and discus.
“Off season development is crucial as we move closer to being a well rounded team,” said McGee. “We need to get stronger in the weight room and mentally tougher. If that happens we will make some noise next spring.”
