Raymond Joseph Gerdes

Raymond Joseph Gerdes, Sr., 52, passed away from cancer on June 12, 2010, at Olathe Medical Center.

Raymond was born Sept. 18, 1957, in Worthington, Minn., to Alfred and Marlene Gerdes.

He married Ruth Kiner on Dec. 5, 1975, in Sioux Falls, S.D.
For the past 10 years he was the General Superintendent for Garney Construction.

He was the recipient of the National ABC Eagle Award and first winner of the Greg Thompson Leadership Award.

Raymond loved spending time with his family.  He enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing in Colorado.

He was preceded in death by siblings Donna Hansen and Jodien Huisenga.
Raymond is survived by his wife Ruth of Gardner; his parents Alfred and Marlene Gerdes of Milford, Iowa; sons Jason Gerdes and fiance’ Veronica of Gardner, James Gerdes and wife Karie of Edgerton, and Raymond Gerdes, Jr. of Gardner; brothers Allen Gerdes of Garland, Texas and Larry Gerdes of Spirit Lake, Iowa; sisters Cindy Schultz of Holdrege, Neb., Mary Smith of Branford, Fla., and Ruth Petrich of Graettinger, Iowa; and two grandchildren, Waylen Gerdes and Hailey Gerdes and one coming in January.

Cremation.  Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS, (913) 856-7111.
