Raymond “Arch” Chauncey Stevens
Raymond “Arch” Chauncey Stevens, 82, of Spring Hill, Kansas formerly of Gardner, Kansas died June 13, 2014.
Arch was born Aug. 12, 1931 in San Diego, California to Abram and Flossie Mae (Canon) Stevens. Due to his dad’s naval service, he lived in Panama Canal Zone, Hawaii, New Mexico, South Carolina, New York and California. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean conflict.
Arch married Beverly Carol McCoy on May 29, 1954 in Moran, Kansas. They lived in Osage City where he managed the telephone company. They later spent 35 years in Gardner and Arch spent the last four years in Spring Hill.
He worked in the telephone communications industry as a technician for W.E.G. Dial, Continental, and Kansas Communications. Arch served on the Osage City School Board, the Osage City Volunteer Fire Dept., coached girls’ softball and was President of the Osage City Chamber of Commerce. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in both Osage City and Edgerton. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beverly, in 2008 and his brother, William “Bill” Stevens.
Arch is survived by children: Shelley Denman, of Spring Hill, Shawn Gotobed and husband Dan, of Shawnee, Kansas and Shannon Stevens; brother, Abram “Mac” Stevens, of Vancouver, Washington; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and six nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., June 17, 2014 at Edgerton United Methodist Church, 300 E. 4th St., Edgerton, KS. Burial follows at Gardner Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., at the church prior to the service. Arrangements: Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner (913)856-7111.
