Johnson County residents are being asked to weigh-in on the county’s FY 2015 budget. County commissioners are hosting a series of public forums to give the public a chance to ask questions and offer suggestions for the Board of County Commissioners to consider when crafting next year’s budget.
To date, commissioners have hosted three forums – including one held at Wheatridge Middle School in Gardner on April 21, hosted by Commissioner John Toplikar, who represents Gardner and Edgerton.
Members of the public still have three more opportunities to add input. Commissioner Ed Peterson will host a forum at 7:30 p.m. on April 24 at Shawnee Mission North High School at 7401 Johnson Drive, Overland Park. Commissioner Steve Klika, who represents Spring Hill, will host a forum at 7 p.m. on April 24 at Harmony Middle School, 10101 W. 141st Street, Overland Park.
Commissioner Jason Osterhaus will host a final session at 7 p.m. on April 29 at Shawnee Mission South High School, 5800 W. 107th Street, Overland Park.
Residents who want more information on the county’s budget or who can not attend a public forum, can learn more through the county’s online budget simulator. The simulator, available at www.jocogov.org, allows visitors to adjust spending on parks, libraries, public transportation, emergency services and public safety. The online tool also allows individuals to enter their home addresses to see how changes in spending would affect their overall property tax bill.
