Program offers teachers funds for classrooms

Ten Edgerton Elementary School teachers received $100 to help offset the cost of getting their classrooms ready for the new school year.

Teachers Nancy Arnold, Kelly Erickson, Gloria Hinshaw, Angie Lukert, Kim McEntee, Jenny Murray, Mindy Nicholson, Tiffany Oldham,  Lisa Renoehl and Allison Weaver received the award during an award presentation at the school on Sept. 2. The monetary awards are part of Walmart’s Teacher Rewards Program.

“We are thilled and appreciate Walmart for thinking about our teachers,” said school principal Nancy Woolery.

Estimates suggest that teachers spend on average $500 out of their own pockets each year for classroom supplies, including snacks for students who may not have regular access to food.

“We know teachers are on tight budgets to provide supplies for their classrooms and Teacher Rewards helps offset those costs,” said Walmart representative Lisa Stewart.
