Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies discontinued the search for additional evidence related to a human skull found south of Gardner on March 18.
They stopped the search due to incoming inclement weather. According to Dep. Richard Howell, officers have yet to return to the search area, located near 213th Street and Gardner Road.
Howell said law enforcement officers are waiting for information from forensics, however he would not say whether the skull was being examined by county forensics specialists or by another jurisdiction’s crime lab.
Hunters found the skull on March 18, and crews anticipated a grid-search of about one square mile.
Howell told The Gardner News on March 19 that the skull had obviously been there long enough for grass to grow over it. He, however, stopped short of calling the search area a crime scene.
