Plum Creek residents voice concern about project

Danedri Thompson
Residents of a Gardner subdivision addressed city council with concerns about where a road that will lead to two new schools will be built.
Ryan Beasley and Jackie Stahl said Plum Creek residents are worried that a planned extension of Grand Street set to run east of Center Street to the new schools will lead to increased traffic, safety issues and lower property values for residents there. Specifically, Beasley said residents thought a Grand Street extension would be further north of the subdivision.
“We feel if it isn’t re-aligned it could cause traffic to go through our subdivision,” Beasley said.
Contractors are already preparing the site for the street extension, which is being jointly funded between the school district and the city.
Stahl asked for council members to consider changing the plans as soon as possible.
“We would just like it to be considered,” she told council members.
At the tail end of the meeting, council members briefly addressed the topic.
Public works director David Green said the extension of Grand Street from Center Street to Moonlight Road has been included in future plans since the 1990s.
“That project is under design,” Green said.
He warned that changes could affect an annexation agreement between the school district and the city that requires work on the road to be complete by the spring of 2013.
Adding a stop light at Grand and Center Street is a future project that ideally would be meeting, done when traffic increases warranted a signal, he told council.
If traffic increases on the road 5 percent every year, the traffic likely won’t warrant a signal there for five years.
Council members agreed to discuss the Grand Street extension at a future work session.

  1. So sorry. Poor Beasley doesn’t want any extra traffic in his neighborhood. Try coming across the street and having to live next to the Intermodal.

Five years before a light will be placed along center street? How many injuries and accidents are going to happen at 183rd and center before a light is put in. It was bad enough before Caseys went in now people are avoiding the corner by driving through the neighborhoods. So sorry Mr Beasley they are already driving through the neighborhood. Dumb place for the school anyway. Why have to Elementary schools within walking distance from each other.

I am just loving it…………I knew the Beasley Bunch would be well taken care of when they called in their favors…………No. 1 subject on the agenda one week after their request, the Dictator and his clones come thru for their buddies……….I wonder how much this special treatment will cost all taxpayers one way or the other………….I can hardly wait to see how most of those Council members will rationalize, connive and manipulate things to take care of these good soldiers and backers of cronyism government………..

  5. Judith Rogers says:

I remember well how citizens had to put up with the cruddy condition of 183rd St. for years with the sign that the city gave to the citizens that said “Rough Road” – no sh–!!! And in the meantime citizens were paying millions to take care of the business entities along Moonlight with their brand new street along with the sweet deals that transfer their tax burden to the common taxpayer. It took years to even get the matter on the agenda for having city meetings being videotaped so the citizens may watch them at their convenience. And the best one of them all is the propaganda and rape they gave the people on that intermodal project which all will be suffering from now till kingdom come – no bigger lie than the one saying: “If You Can’t Beat ‘Em, Tax ‘Em”. Then we take further care of the developers, banks, investors, builders, etc. by bankrolling them with benefit districts while they get their fraudulent farm appraisals providing them with about $5 a year tax bills and we are losing millions and millions in tax revenue in the process and most of it for our schools. And how many times have I seen those jaybirds slipping things thru on the consent agenda to take care of some bloodsucker??? I have seen enough in the past 7 years to make any citizen sick to the core if they were paying any attention and it goes on and on and on and involving one government entity after another along with the thieves.

I know exactly why the Beasley Bunch got their preferential treatment on this school street deal because I have seen similiar wheeling and dealing for years. Then you wonder why I rail against this Dictatorship type of government I have had for years…………..I could write page after page of why I have contempt for the slimy politicians, bureaucrats and the bloodsuckers. I am certainly not a Brownbacker and will never be a backer of those who show no honesty, ethics, integrity, character, etc.

Apparently, Judith still posts when nobody’s there to read them. Are we SURE she’s not a spambot?

Evidently you are still tuning in, nonamer……………………..and we all know what your purpose is………..

  10. nonamers says:

I thought your name looked lonely, being the only one in the recent posts, Judith.

  11. Judith Rogers says:

Hope all citizens are aware of what is about ready to be dropped on them – go to http://joco913.com/news/steve-rose-the-end-of-kansas-as-we-know-it/ to get some idea. In my opinion your local yokels at the city, school district and county levels have also been very instrumental in the lying, conniving, manipulation, etc. that is going to result in a big bomb to your bank account. Keep your heads in the sand and do nothing but you will only be able to do that for so long – your continued cronyism government is not going to be pretty.
