On March 29, a new service organization at Gardner Edgerton High School, “Performing with a Purpose” founded by GEHS junior Cooper McGuire, put on a family friendly variety show “Entertainment Through the Ages” at the GEHS Auditorium. The profits from the show, and attending raffle and silent auction, totaled over $1,600 with the proceeds donated to the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund, which supports community needs throughout the year.
McGuire who also produced the show formed the service organization to encourage musicians, actors, and entertainers to use their talents to support charitable causes and be a positive influence in their communities.  None of this would have been possible without the aid of the GEHS Repertory Theatre students and faculty from the high school. On Friday March 4, 2014, McGuire, Theatre Director Jeff Lady, Principle Tim Brady, and the GEHS Rep students presented Mayor Chris Morrow a BIG check, and promised future shows in subsequent school years. A hearty well done to all the volunteers and donors who helped make the event a success.
